HM Salote, Traditional Sailing Vessel
Our 48′ Kalia HM Salote was built right here in Tonga by Vava’u Sailing Tours. She is called a Kalia which is the Tongan word for Polynesian double hulled sailing canoes with crab claw sails. These voyaging canoes carried Tongans all over the Pacific Ocean where they populated many islands. She is the only one here in The Kingdom of Tonga.
HM Salote is cedar stripped with a layer of fiberglass cloth with epoxy resin and a varnished hull.
It took us 7 months to build her and she was launched right off the seawall here at the fisheries in Vava’u, Tonga on June 6th, 2012.
She can carry 20 people and is great for weddings, birthday parties, etc. But we have great fun with small groups.
She has a BBQ on deck and lots of seating at our large dining table and bar, she also has two heads (bathrooms) below. Lunch and snorkeling equipment is included on our tour.
We provide shade or open areas in the sun for those sun-seekers.
Come and enjoy a taste of history!
