Fisherman get up really early in the Kingdom of Tonga and bring in fresh tuna, trout, octopus and lobsters. Meanwhile Tongan growers pick, pluck and dig up quality fruits and vegetables from plants cultivated in Tonga’s rich volcanic soil.
Traditional Tongan food usually includes meats like chicken and pork, fish and vegetables like tomatoes, carrots, spinach, pumpkins, taro, tapioca and onions. Traditional food is sometimes cooked in an umu (an earth oven) and puaka (pig) is roasted on special occasions.
Because of all of that, you can guarantee your seafood, meat and vegetables will all be grown locally and served fresh at a traditional dinner and cultural show or at one of Tonga’s fantastic cafes, restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
Just like accommodation in the Kingdom of Tonga, you can pick from a range of restaurants featuring traditional Tongan fare as well as German, Italian and Asian cuisines. For quick and affordable meals, check out the local and friendly cafes.
Below you’ll find the Tonga Visitor Bureau’s (Ministry of Tourism) official guide for ALL of the cafes, restaurants, bars and nightclubs in the Kingdom of Tonga.
